As women, we can sometimes forget to put ourselves first, which can end up causing unaware disruptions within our body that actually aren’t serving us well. These disruptions can cause a cascade of issues – brain fog, mid-day exhaustion, stress, and anxiety to name a few – that keep our bodies in a cycle of fight of flight versus rest and digest. Our fight or flight responses are directly related to our hormones, and hormones are directly related to fertility. And Juanique is here with all the tips and tricks on what we can do to increase our fertility.
On today’s podcast, I’m sharing my good friend Juanique Roney, owner of Provo Health Clinic and the Gutsy Health Membership. She is bringing in statistics, tips, and all the ways we can help support our bodies for fertility by working with it, instead of against it. And it’s things as simple as getting 8 hours of sleep a day, or adding in a simple green smoothie to your morning routine.
Listen in as Juanique explains the order of healing, what you can do to help balance your hormones, and provide your body the nourishment that it needs without feeling overwhelmed by the process. She gives you actionable steps and shows you how healing your body can be fun!

[00:00:00] Jenica Parcell: Hi friends. Welcome to Fearless Infertility, a podcast for women struggling with the mental anguish that comes with infertility. My name is Jenica and after suffering in silence for too long, I was able to pull myself out of the dark, take control over my mind and create joy during my infertility experience, I’m here to help you do the same sister. Let’s dive into today’s show .
[00:00:26] Jenica Parcell: Hello, my friends and welcome back to the podcast Fearless Infertility episode 50. On today’s podcast I’m sharing with you, my friend, Juanique Roney, as I interview her. And at the end of today’s episode, you will learn more about how to support your health, and that will allow you to feel better than ever, and also increase your chances of fertility.
[00:00:48] Jenica Parcell: She makes it easy for us to understand where to start, and I’m really excited for you to listen to this episode. So let’s get to it.
[00:00:55] Jenica Parcell: What’s up ladies. I’m so happy that you were here with me today. And once again, as always, I just want you to feel super proud of yourself for just pressing play on this podcast episode, because oftentimes when you’re dealing with something as difficult as infertility, you just kind of want it to go away, you know? You just want to sweep it under the rug, pretend it’s not there. And I’m just really proud of you guys for pushing play and acknowledging it and saying, all right, I can’t control a lot about what I’m going through, but there are things that I can control. And I think that’s where I come in is that next step in, all right well, how do I do that? And hopefully you get really incredible tools from this podcast that you’ll be able to take into your life and realize that you can control more about your infertility experience than maybe you previously would have thought otherwise before you listened.
[00:01:40] Jenica Parcell: So I just want to give props to you though for taking that first step, because oftentimes when you’re dealing with something as difficult as infertility, you just kinda want to sweep it under the rug and be like, you know, I’m just going to pretend it’s not there. Hopefully it’ll just go away and then it just doesn’t, it’s just under the rug.
[00:01:53] Jenica Parcell: So anyway, I just wanted to say that you should feel really proud of yourself for showing up and continuing to show up for yourself and learn these tools to apply to your life because not only will it benefit your life, it will benefit the lives of those around you, your future family, and I’m just really proud of you.
[00:02:09] Jenica Parcell: So I hope you’re proud of yourself today. I wanted to let you know that I continuously update my blog for my current infertility experience. So I started this back in 2015, I was on a business trip in Canada. I walked into this little boutique and the boutique had a book sitting on the shelf and it was this notepad that had little quotes on the bottom of each page and the title was “A Hundred Gathered Thoughts for my Beautiful Child”. And I thought it was so cool because I thought what a beautiful way to be able to share, like this author’s love for her children or what she wanted her child to know. And I thought to myself, I’m going to, well, actually, you know, I don’t even know if I thought of it right away, but eventually when I wanted to share about our third round of IVF, that I would share about it in blog posts written to our future child.
[00:02:59] Jenica Parcell: And these have become so invaluable for me. They’ve become so invaluable for many of you who have loved to read through them. So those are still accessible. If you go to asliceofstyle.com, you can access those. And there’s a tab at the top called infertility and all of those blog posts are there. So you have the updates, the highs, the lows, the funny parts, the sad parts. All of it from that journey. And I’m doing the same thing with our current experience right now with doing a frozen embryo transfer and trying to have another baby. So make sure to check those out, if you’re interested. Honestly, I try to keep them pretty lighthearted. I feel like in general, I process through things with humor. And so I hope you’ll find it entertaining and also really informative. And those are there right now. They’re there for you for your viewing pleasure.
[00:03:39] Jenica Parcell: So I wanted to also read you guys a podcast review. I love this review. The username was hkenyon30. She said, “Setting me up for success”. That was the title. And her review says, “I wasn’t a podcast girl until this last year. Now I’m hooked and I’m so grateful. After trying for a year and a half, my husband and I actually finally got our first positive pregnancy tests a few days before Christmas, and then a few weeks ago we had a miscarriage. Because I had been adding this podcast into my routine, my mindset was pretty strong. And when I miscarried, I was able to pull up some of the episodes I knew could bring me hope. The outlook Jenica has on the trial of infertility has helped me a lot. This journey is filled with all the emotions and feelings, but I have found pure joy in the midst of it all. God has strengthened me. I’d rather be my upbeat, happy self, when I finally have my kiddos here with me and keeping my mindset strong during the journey is so important. I know that tools like this podcast and the work Jenica does are the kinds of tools He would want us to find. I highly recommend giving this a listen. Jenica, thanks for being a tool in God’s hands to help us find joy in the journey and have a strong mindset along the way. [
00:04:42] Jenica Parcell: Oh, my goodness. You bring me joy. That podcast just like touched my heart so much because I feel the same way with these tools that I share. I think that infertility is really hard, right? We wouldn’t have chosen this for ourselves, but I also think that there can be joy and there can be, I mean, there is opposition in all things and including our day-to-day experiences, including the trials we have. And I love that you mentioned that. I’m so grateful that this podcast is helping you and thank you for leaving the review. So please email me [email protected] with your, address and the size that you want of your PJ’s and socks and we’ll get those shipped out to you.
[00:05:15] Jenica Parcell: If any of you are interested in getting some of my magical PJ’s and socks sent to you, please leave a review. One, because I just like to treat you. Like, why would you not want some PJs and socks that are amazing? And two, I also really think that it’s important to bring other women into this space. I mean, we’re not prepared for fertility. We know we’re going to graduate high school typically. We know we’re gonna try to go to college or whatever that next step is. We know we’ll probably get married, but none of us, at least me, I would say the majority of you guys too, didn’t expect infertility. So I love that we have this space to bring women into so that they know that they’re not alone and you can help by sharing this podcast with the people that, you know, and by leaving ratings and reviews, because then people can see it more easily. So thank you for helping me in my journey. I know you feel the same way in wanting to bring people into this space so they know they’re not alone, too. It’s this beautiful sisterhood and I just love being here with you guys.
[00:06:07] Jenica Parcell: So I want to get into today’s podcast episode with my friend, Juanique. She is a genius when it comes to holistic health and she really helps simplify how we can take care of our bodies so that our bodies can then take care of procreating. And I think that everything that she says is so applicable to women in this space in preparing your bodies for trying to conceive and grow your family. And honestly, even if that doesn’t happen for us in the way that we want it to, you can’t go wrong in following the steps that she says. You will feel better and your body will function at a higher level, and I think you’re gonna be grateful that you apply what she says today. So let’s get into today’s episode, can’t wait.
[00:06:51] Jenica Parcell: All right my friends welcome back to Fearless Infertility. I have my friend, Juanique Roney. I am so excited that she’s here with us today. And I just feel like it’s a treat that I’m giving all of you, because she has been someone who has been really foundational for me in recovering from Epstein-Barr virus, and she just helps so many women heal. And just, I can’t, I mean, I can’t even, I’ve been wanting to interview her for honestly, since this podcast started, so, welcome Juanique.
[00:07:17] Juanique Roney: Thank you, it’s such an honor to be here. I’m so excited Jenica. Thank you for having me.
[00:07:22] Jenica Parcell: Good. Yay. Okay, Juanique, tell us what your background is, like who are you if people haven’t heard of you yet?
[00:07:27] Juanique Roney: So who am I? I am a, I, you know, you probably have people in here who are doctors and scientists and all these things. I’m actually very normal person. Um, I am, I am. I am a stay at home mom, actually, I’m not, I’m working now, but, I am about a year away from getting my master’s nutrition therapy degree. But I am the owner of Provo Health. I started the Gusty Health membership. And basically all of my platforms, my courses, my clinic, it’s all around, conscious healing and people becoming self healers, right? Because I truly believe that doctors are a part of your healing, but 80% of your healing is your responsibility.
[00:08:06] Juanique Roney: But how can we do that if we don’t understand our bodies and we don’t understand how our bodies work? And so what we do, what we’re currently doing in our culture, is we are giving up all of our responsibility to our doctors. And we’re saying, fix me, fix me, fix me. And that model just doesn’t work. Your doctors can’t fix you. They can’t cook your meals. They can’t do your grocery shopping for you. They can’t do your supplements, shopping for you. Like we have to do it ourselves. We have to become the experts because we live in a, in a day and age where, like, we can’t afford not to do that. We’re getting sicker and sicker and sicker.
[00:08:38] Juanique Roney: I mean, if you look at the statistics and I’m going to go into some statistics right now, they’re not good. We are, the sickest we’ve ever been. Obesity is getting worse and worse and worse. Diabetes, like 10% of Americans have type two diabetes. Since the nineties, children have tripled in like food intolerances.
[00:08:56] Juanique Roney: Infertility. I mean, for instance, artificial infertility treatments are increasing five to 10%, per year, you know?
[00:09:05] Jenica Parcell: Wow, I didn’t realize it was that, that much
[00:09:07] Juanique Roney: It’s drastic. And since I think the seventies, I’m going to pull up some stats. Give me one second, but I think, okay, so a rigorous, comprehensive meta analysis, uh, with data collected between 1973 and 2011, finds that amongst men from western countries, sperm concentration declined by 50%. All right, so sperm count is going down and infertility is going down in women and children are getting sicker. Obesity is going up. Um, we have more autoimmune diseases than ever. We think, I think, like three years ago we had hit a hundred different types of autoimmune diseases. Now we’re at like 115 and it just keeps going up and up and up. And yet we have more medical intervention than ever. And we’re still the sickest, like we’re getting sicker. So there’s a disconnect here.
[00:09:52] Juanique Roney: And so I’m very passionate about teaching people, like actually, like we have this wrong and it’s not that the medical system is wrong. They’re really great at like, you know, intervening when there’s like, when there’s big things, right? Like cancer or whatever, but it’s actually our responsibility to do our work and to learn about our bodies and heal ourselves and reverse disease and dysfunction and our bodies, cause it can be done. Our biology hasn’t changed in 50 years. It’s still the same DNA. It’s just our environments that are affecting our bodies and making us sicker and sicker and sicker. And then we’re actually passing this onto our children because not only are they are now in a more toxin burdened world, but they now have less microbiota than ever because we have less microbiome and we’re passing that on to our children. And then they’re going to be passing that onto their children. And it’s just becoming less and less, less, or becoming more and more sick. So that was a very long answer to like who I am. What do I do?
[00:10:50] Jenica Parcell: I love it.
[00:10:51] Juanique Roney: I just want people to know that they are their own self healers, like healing happens, but it’s like, it’s all you. It’s in your hands. It’s, it’s your power. It’s not your doctors.
[00:11:01] Jenica Parcell: Yeah, which I love. I personally feel like it empowers me because I don’t want to be at the whim of someone else’s knowledge. And also like these medications that oftentimes I think they prescribe, because that’s all that they know, with all these side effects that in fact, are making a lot of the other things in our bodies worse. And so today in our conversation, I would love to speak with you about going back to the basics and obviously my audience is women with infertility and how can we really set ourselves up for more success in being able to become more fertile?
[00:11:36] Juanique Roney: I love that. And I want to start with the order of healing. So a couple of years ago, I came up with something called the order of healing. And if we follow this order of healing, hormones just kind of fix themselves, right? Hormones are really fun. They’re, they’re, they’re kind of like these magical seeds in our bodies. Let’s call them like seeds and they make us feel like they, and what’s really interesting before we go into the order of healing, I kind of want to explain what hormones are like in the body.
[00:12:00] Jenica Parcell: Okay.
[00:12:01] Juanique Roney: So, when our hormones are balanced, we feel sexy and vivacious and alive and we’re inspired and our hair is thicker and our skin is luscious and our nails are growing and we’re, we’re, we’re primed and ready for fertilization and procreation, right? Like we feel sexy. We want to do sexy things. We want to connect with our partners. Let’s go, right?
[00:12:22] Jenica Parcell: Yeah.
[00:12:22] Juanique Roney: But, how many of us are walking around with brittle hair, brittle nails, low energy, low libido. Um, and, and this is why when the human body is prioritizing things inside of it. Let’s say you are malnourished and you have a lot of stress, the first thing the body is go- and now you have very little resources, right? The body is not going to sacrifice the brain. It’s not going to sacrifice heart tissue. It’s not going to sacrifice the lines, all these vital organs. It’s not going to sacrifice them, right? The first thing that’s going to go are your hormones, your procreation, because procreation, it’s just a bonus, right? So you can actually live, functionally, not optimally, but functionally without your hormones. And so when the body is really low in resources, because you’re eating the standard American diet and you’re not taking care of yourself and you’re eating a lot of sugar and you’re not sleeping and you have high stress, the body doesn’t use important resources. It will throw out the hormones to preserve the other more important functions, because let’s be honest, like procreation, it’s not that important for survival. Think back to our ancestors. If you were running from a bear and like looking after your life and like your resources were low, you’re not thinking, Hey, let’s, let’s let’s cart 10 children with us and go, right?
[00:13:46] Jenica Parcell: Right.
[00:13:46] Juanique Roney: Your thinking like I need to preserve myself and protect myself from danger and so I’m going to use all my energy and my resources to keep me alive, not to procreate.
[00:13:55] Juanique Roney: So there’s two different responses in the body. There’s fight or flight and there’s rest and digest. And the majority of us, we are in fight or flight. And so when we are in fight or flight, when we’re in this stress response, our bodies are not prioritizing procreation. When we are malnourished, our bodies are not prioritizing procreation, right? How many of us, have you, I mean, Jenica, how many people in your life do you look at and you’re like, wow. They stress really well. Like how many people have no stress in their life? Right?
[00:14:25] Jenica Parcell: Yeah. We all have something that’s, I mean, that’s kind of the foundation of what I teach. We all have something that’s just part of being a human being. It was intentionally like that, right?
[00:14:33] Juanique Roney: Right. And I think like culturally we’ve normalized stress, right?
[00:14:37] Jenica Parcell: Yeah.
[00:14:37] Juanique Roney: But normally it’s like high stress and not sleeping well, and
[00:14:40] Jenica Parcell: Yeah. You know, it’s almost like we’ve glorified it honestly in America, I think.
[00:14:44] Juanique Roney: Yes. And so, you know, so if we can, if we can change our relationship to stress and really like, as women, we don’t put ourselves first. We hemorrhage our life force to like service everyone around us including like our spouses and our children. And we kind of have to do that. But we like it’s really hard to prioritize ourselves. So we have these things that are working against us, right? Our stress, that we’re in fight or flight all the time, so our bodies really our nervous system and our brain is really not in a state, a neurological state to prioritize healthy hormones and healthy hormone balances. We’re in this fight or flight response. So we’re gearing up for stressful responses all the time, and your biology is not designed to procreate and be in stress. It’s not going to happen, right?
[00:15:29] Juanique Roney: And so if we, as women can, when like I talk about this all the time in my clinic where, you know, I won’t put people on programs until there are certain stressors that they have dealt with, right? And so I, so going to the order of healing, number one is mindset. Like, how are you taking care of yourself? How are you prioritizing your health? Are you taking time for relaxation and healthy exercise, and are you surrounding yourself, because I don’t think we think about this, are surrounding yourself with non-toxic people and media and books, right? Because everything that we ingest food and thoughts and, you know, whatever it is. Is it toxic? Or does it build us up and heal us, right?
[00:16:14] Juanique Roney: So if you’re, if you’re scrolling on Instagram and you’re stressed and you find yourself being envious of someone, or, you know, you’re sad because your house doesn’t look a certain way. That’s all stress, right? If you’re reading news about, and I don’t want anyone to think that I’m telling them to be naive about the world, but you know I’ll just share what I’ve been going through in the last year. My husband was fighting cancer for five years for stage four, colon cancer, which is why we started Provo Health clinic, and which is why we became, you know, health revolutionaries and experts in the health field. But, you know, my life was very stressful and he passed away this past summer. And I, I can’t read about Covid stuff. I can’t read about stressful things in the world. That is my protective boundary is like my mental health is more important, right?
[00:16:58] Jenica Parcell: I’m with you. Yeah. And I haven’t even had anything that stressful happen in my personal life, but even then, I’d never watched the news. So, I mean, I will have people like, in my life say, you didn’t hear about this? And I’m like, no, I didn’t hear about this in another country. And I’m glad that I didn’t because we choose where our realm of influence is at, and right now it’s not, it’s not me helping out another country. It is what it is. So I’m the same way. I literally don’t know what’s going on most of the time. I know the things that I need to know, but I’m not going to add an extra stress just to be quote unquote informed.
[00:17:26] Juanique Roney: Right. You know, like I think if we can, I love that you said that it’s so important, but if we can shift our mindset to, I got to take care of the internal world inside me, because that’s going to bleed into my children and that’s going to bleed into my community. And then that’s going to have a ripple effect over the next few years, into, you know, Utah county or wherever and then it will bleed to the world, but that’s, that’s the scope of like, of influence that I have right now. Me stressing about other things that are out of my control doesn’t serve me. It doesn’t serve my family. It doesn’t serve my community. And so if I can bring peace into my internal world, it will then reflect in my external world. And so I hope people can understand that. [00:18:11] Jenica Parcell: Yeah. Absolutely.
[00:18:12] Juanique Roney: If we have a really healthy, mindful, boundaries to things that are toxic, you know, then healing can happen. And then we can switch from, a sympathetic state, which is the fight or flight state and to parasympathetic state, which is rest and digest and heal. And that is where like that’s when your brain is programmed for let’s go. Let’s, let’s figure out hormones, right? Let’s figure out, like the imbalances in our bodies, because hormones are literally just a mirror. It’s a reflection of the inflammatory state and the stress state that’s in your body. So that’s number one.
[00:18:47] Juanique Roney: Number two is my number two has mitochondria. So I’m not going to talk too much about mitochondria, but mitochondria is just like, when we, the mitochondria are like the batteries to the cells in your body. Every single cell in your body has mitochondria. And if you have low batteries in your devices, they’re, they’re not going to function well. They’re going to shut down. So obviously you want a lot of energy in your body. If you have a lot of healing to do, and you know, you have a lot of healing to do if your hormones are not balanced because hormones are just a reflection of inflammation in your body. So you need a lot of energy and resources to undo the imbalances so that you can get healing and repairing going so that your hormones can thrive in a balanced environment again, alright?
[00:19:34] Juanique Roney: And so, what are some things that help with mitochondrial function? So the most basic things. Stress is a huge one. When we stress, we actually directly damage our mitochondria. Sleep. Are you sleeping well? How many people actually get a good eight hours of sleep? You know, they’re sleeping from like ten to six. How many of us are staying up at night? How many of us are waking up multiple times?
[00:19:56] Jenica Parcell: Ugh, I stay up at night and I try so hard. That’s like my number one goal. Especially after this conversation. I’m going to go sleep. It’s not Netflix for me tonight. And it’s going to be like, reading a calm book so thank you for that.
[00:20:06] Juanique Roney: Of course and another thing people don’t even realize is lighting. Like we actually live in a very artificial lighting world and light, like the best way to boost mitochondrial function is actually getting out in the morning and watching the sunrise and getting it out in the afternoon and watching the sunset. It’s the color tones that actually help to boost. Isn’t that amazing.
[00:20:26] Jenica Parcell: That’s fascinating. Yeah. I never heard of that.
[00:20:28] Juanique Roney: Yes, there are light receptors in every single cell in your body. And so these light receptors obviously pick up the vibrational frequency of the lighting and it helps to restore and recharge your mitochondria. There’s this thing I always say, when you turn back to nature, you start to see healing happen and that’s because we’re just an extension of nature, but we live in our modern day societies where we have like, kind of like, you know, pulled ourselves away from that which has nourished us for hundreds of thousands of years, right?
[00:20:57] Jenica Parcell: Yeah everything feels artificial, honestly.
[00:21:00] Juanique Roney: Yes. And so artificial lighting, I mean, you look at computers and TV screens late at night and cell phones. How many kids are gaming at like 12 1, 2 in the morning and then they have sleep issues and anxiety and depression, right? That’s because their circadian rhythm is thrown off by all this artificial lighting and they’re not sleeping well. And then they’re tired and now their mitochondrial function is down. Their circadian rhythm is down. Their inflammation is going up and they don’t feel good, right? So another scary statistic is, you know, not only are we having all these infertility issues and like food issues, but like mental illness is sky rocketing. Sleep disorders in children is skyrocketing. Anxiety and depression, skyrocketing, right? There’s dysfunction and it’s across the board. It’s not just with infertility, but they all, they all kind of come back to the same common problems, right?
[00:21:52] Juanique Roney: So back to mitochondria like, so sleep stress, getting out in natural lighting, dimming down your lights at night when it’s nighttime and having more of like that reddish orange light bulbs. So we dim everything and I only have specific types of light bulbs in my house at nighttime. We don’t, you know, we don’t do screens after, let’s see, after six o’clock. The kids go to bed at like seven, you know? And so, so I’m trying to keep their rhythms in check, you know, you can, if you, if you have to work in front of a computer, you can wear those blue blocker glasses. You know what I mean, and that can help with brain function, because when we’re looking at blue lighting, it actually decreases your melatonin production and melatonin actually helps with your sleep cycle. So if we’re watching blue screens, if you have to do work, then wear blue blockers and that won’t mess with your, your melatonin production. And then that can help with better sleep.
[00:22:45] Jenica Parcell: Okay I have to tell you, so I was talking to my husband, Tyler the other day, and I have this habit of I’m like, I feel good, I’m fine. I’ll just work at night a little bit. And then my anxiety literally skyrockets. And so this all makes a lot of sense for me. And he’s like, Jenica. So we made up this plan for me. I’m like, I literally can’t work at night because I’m totally fine during the day, I’m good, you know? And like as a person who naturally just, I think my brain just goes towards anxiety, I am fine during the day. I’m fine in the morning and the afternoon, and if I work at night and if I’m on my computer I’m like everything’s doomed, we’re all doomed.
[00:23:16] Juanique Roney: Yeah.
[00:23:17] Jenica Parcell: That’s awful.
[00:23:18] Juanique Roney: And let me ask you a question because it ties a little with adrenals too. We’re going to talk about adrenals in a little bit, in the order of healing, but, do you find that you have like an energy crash in the afternoons sometime?
[00:23:30] Jenica Parcell: Yes, I do. Around like two o’clock.
[00:23:32] Jenica Parcell: And then you get your second wind around two o’clock. I was going to say between one or two.
[00:23:36] Jenica Parcell: Yes two o’clock. [00:23:37] Juanique Roney: And then you get your second with about like six, seven, and then you can stay up all night, is that correct?
[00:23:40] Jenica Parcell: So I can never stay up all night, but I do get a second wind at like six or seven and then I’m like good again, but yeah, it’s like two o’clock it’s I’m feeling very sluggish for sure.
[00:23:48] Juanique Roney: Yes so that is another sign of adrenal fatigue. And we’re going to talk about adrenal fatigue, but if you had proper sleep rhythms, like, and you saying you get the anxiety at night, that’s just feeding off of that second cortisol spike that you’re getting at nighttime that you shouldn’t be getting at nighttime, right? And so if your sleep rhythm was better, your body wouldn’t have this imbalanced, cortisol rhythm.
[00:24:11] Jenica Parcell: Okay.
[00:24:11] Juanique Roney: And so that’s exactly why. You’re so in tune with your body, Jenica. It’s phenomenal. So a good rule for you is I can’t work at night because it’s going to throw off my circadian rhythm. That’s gonna throw off my cortisol rhythm and I’m going to start having anxiety at night and low energy in mid-afternoon, about one, two, right?
[00:24:29] Jenica Parcell: Yeah.
[00:24:30] Juanique Roney: So, and that’s because what you’re trying to do, and I, and I even hate to say this, but what you’re trying to do at night is actually very unnatural for your body. It’s unnatrual for your mitochondrial function. It’s unnatural for your cortisol rhythms. It’s unnatural. You’re supposed to be sleeping at night. There’s a phenomenal hormone doctor on Instagram. Her name is Dr. Jolene Brighten and she said this a few years ago, but she said 80% of health issues could probably clear up if we all just slept properly. If we were all good sleepers. Isn’t that amazing. So we shouldn’t overlook sleep. And so if you are someone that’s dealing with infertility, we literally, have just gone over mindset and mitochondria, which has a lot to do with stress and sleep, right? How many of us are walking around and we’re just these anxious cases, right? We’re just-
[00:25:19] Jenica Parcell: Yeah.
[00:25:20] Juanique Roney: We have anxiety and like, it just takes one little thing and we’re just like, you know, highly anxious all the time. Like, that’s not a conducive environment for healthy, happy hormone balancing, right?
[00:25:31] Jenica Parcell: Yeah. Wow, that’s so good to know.
[00:25:34] Juanique Roney: Thank you for sharing that because you know, like it’s so important. It is so, so important.
[00:25:39] Jenica Parcell: Yeah. It’s interesting, this is so good to know too, to remember that I just need to like put that first because I feel like sometimes if I’m anxious, I’ll be like, oh, I just need to work harder. Or I just need to like, be more controlling of the environment right now, instead of just letting myself go to bed and waking up in the morning. And my mom always even said that. I mean, this goes back to the basics of me growing up, but she always said, just go to sleep. Everything will be better. At least a little bit better in the morning. And it’s true every time. And I don’t like that it’s true, but it is.
[00:26:05] Juanique Roney: I know it’s not really great for like, being productive in our businesses, cause I know you’re a business woman and I’m a business woman too, but like, we just have to like, if I am to be a functional mom and I don’t want to age early, because now I’m a single mom, right? And like, my health is so important, you know, like I have to prioritize my work. And so, unfortunately my production at work is a lot slower and my team knows that and you know what? It has to be okay because my mental wellbeing, my physical wellbeing, it’s the most important thing on this planet. Like there’s nothing more important than your health. There’s nothing more important.
[00:26:41] Jenica Parcell: There’s not.
[00:26:41] Juanique Roney: When you can show up as a healthy, happy mom, everyone wins. Your children win. Your body wins, you win, your spouse wins.
[00:26:49] Jenica Parcell: Yeah.
[00:26:49] Juanique Roney: Everyone wins.
[00:26:50] Jenica Parcell: So I love that too. And ironically, I feel like then when you do show up at work, you’re actually doing better work in general because you’re showing up as your best self and producing better.
[00:27:00] Juanique Roney: Yes. You’re way more productive. Your minds clear. I mean, how many people have brain fog, right? How many women are dealing with brain fog? And that is just, one, that’s sleeplessness, that’s anxiety and that’s inflammation on the brain. And we’re going to talk about things that cause inflammation on the brain.
[00:27:15] Juanique Roney: So mitochondria’s huge. A couple more things, and we’re going to dive more into this in the next few steps, but, um, inflammatory foods. So a lot of people, like I said earlier, they count macros, but they don’t count micros. Macronutrients are literally just fats, carbs, and proteins. But micronutrients are the vitamins and the minerals. And these are the things like these are like the workhorses that help with the enzyme pathways and the metabolic pathways and the inflammatory pathways. And so these are really the things that bring charge to the body that help the body to detox. They help the body to heal and repair itself. It’s kind of like, if you think of it this way, the macros are like bricks, right? And so when you’re building a house, you have a bunch of bricks, right? But the micronutrients are the cement and you can’t build a house without cement. And so you need to have this cement to put everything together and to help repair and to help build. And remember, our bodies are constantly tearing down and building up, tearing down and building up. And so aging happens and inflammation happens and hormonal imbalances happen when we are breaking down faster than we are rebuilding. And so we need a lot of the cement to help put our bricks together again, because the house is getting destroyed over and over and over, which is natural. Our house is supposed to be lived in and a little destroyed, right? But if we’re not repairing it at the same rate or even faster, that’s when we’re aging, that’s when we have disease and inflammation and that’s when we just don’t feel good. And then we start to see the signs of our wear and tear. Brittle hair, brittle nails, bad skin, acne, low energy brain fog. You’re exhausted at around one or two. You don’t have energy. Those are the signs that your house is actually not repairing fast enough. And we need a lot more micronutrients. And so, like we get micro nutrients from fruits and vegetables, right? And so the fruits and vegetables, all of those are going to help mitochondrial production, so you’re making more energy, right? And you are. And so foods that tear down our bodies, and I say, there’s two things in the world that are like, you know, the root of all evil. One is stress that we’ve touched on. Sugar is the second one.
[00:29:18] Jenica Parcell: I hate to hear that. I love sugar. Why? Why?
[00:29:23] Juanique Roney: The most addictive substance on the planet. It really is 100%. They’ve actually done studies. They’ve done studies. It’s more addicting than cocaine, alright? They’ve done studies with rats and they put, so funny, they put sugar water in with one rat cage and they put cocaine in the other. And the rats went to the other water tray and the rats went to the sugar water more than the cocaine. Sugar gives you a quick boost, but a really hard crash, right? But we’re all trying to get a quick boost or trying to get a quick something, right?
[00:29:53] Jenica Parcell: Right.
[00:29:53] Juanique Roney: Like a quick dopamine rush, you know, but what we really need to realize is sugar does that quick dopamine rush, but it gives us a bigger crash later. Sugar also increases inflammation because it increases your blood sugar, which increases your cortisol. And when your cortisol is spiked over and over and over, that actually messes with your hormones. We could do like a whole podcast on, like blood sugar regulation, because
[00:30:15] Jenica Parcell: Oh, you need to do that. I’m rebooking you.
[00:30:18] Juanique Roney: You can rebook me and actually I think Gina Worful, she literally just did a whole course on mastering your blood sugar. Because here’s the thing is if you are dealing with hormonal issues and weight issues, it’s blood sugar regulation, right? And now here’s some fun statistics. So we are only supposed to ingest about 24 to 26 grams of sugar a day, added sugar a day, right? The average American gets over a hundred. So we’re eating four times more sugar than we should. And guess what? The human body is not designed for that. So if you have hormonal imbalances, chances are, like 9 out of 10 chances, you are eating too much sugar. And so when we eat too much sugar it spikes your insulin. That’s gonna spike your cortisol. And then cortisol, spiking actually deplete sex hormones. And so, so your body’s prioritizing managing your blood sugar and it’s not prioritizing fertilization. It’s not prioritizing sex any time. It’s not prioritizing hormones, right? Because we always forget. Insulin is a hormone. And so we’re overusing like, we have this overabundance of insulin production because we’re eating so much sugar that we now have less resources to produce healthy sex hormones. And so, so stress and sugar is one of those things, right?
[00:31:35] Jenica Parcell: Okay can I ask you a quick question.
[00:31:37] Juanique Roney: Oh totally.
[00:31:38] Jenica Parcell: When you first learned about all this, was it hard for you to eat less sugar? And how have you done that?
[00:31:43] Juanique Roney: Okay, so, oh my gosh, it’s such a good question. Okay. I was okay. Oh my gosh. I was a sugar addict. So I grew up in South Africa, you know what condensed milk is?
[00:31:55] Jenica Parcell: Yeah. Like sweetened condensed milk, you put it in desserts.
[00:31:58] Juanique Roney: It’s so sweet. I could drink a whole can of that in a day, right? That’s a lot of sugar. I grew up with like headaches and migraines as a kid. And I realized it was because of sugar imbalances, right? Well, I was diagnosed with graves disease when I had my first son and I knew the whole world of nutrition. My mom was like a holistic nutritionist back in South Africa, and so I knew this world and I was like, oh, I’m just going to reverse my graves disease naturally. And I did, right? So I did it through nutrition and through massive discipline, because I was like, I’m either going to die from graves disease or I have to go to the extreme to heal my body because you can die from graves disease. You can literally have a heart attack and die. So my discipline and my motivation to not die. Isn’t that funny, like those that don’t want to die, like we’re the most disciplined, right? Like, so, so that’s when I first trained myself to eat less sugar. I didn’t cut it out completely, but I cut it down drastically, drastically, right? And I reversed my graves disease in six months.
[00:32:54] Jenica Parcell: Wow, good job!
[00:32:56] Juanique Roney: Thank you, thanks. And then my husband was diagnosed with cancer a year and a half later. And so again, the motivation was huge, right? Like I want to save my husband’s life. He’s got this life-threatening disease. And so in the beginning it was so hard. I remember like sneaking Snickers bars from the store and eating it and throwing the wrapper out in the trash, outside, before I came into the house. My husband would sneak McDonald’s and I would find out by looking at all the bank receipts.
[00:33:25] Jenica Parcell: Oh my gosh so you guys would just be sneaking it from each other?
[00:33:28] Juanique Roney: We’re both like sneaking food and pretending that we’re eating so healthy
[00:33:32] Jenica Parcell: I love it.
[00:33:32] Juanique Roney: Yeah it’s fun to like look back on right? But this is lesson I want you guys to learn. Cutting out sugar cold turkey hardly ever works, right? Unless you’re highly motivated because you’re terrified of losing your life, you know, like with cancer or graves disease, it’s not gonna work. So you have to crowd it out, alright? You have to like slowly change your taste buds. And here’s another fun fact, too. The microbiome in your gut. You have good bacteria and bad bacteria that co-exist and you want more good bacteria than bad bacteria. The majority of us walking around, from the standard American diet actually have more bad bacteria. If you have hormonal imbalances, if you have, you know, like metabolic issues and weight issues and you know, you’re craving sugar, chances are, you have more bad bacteria than good bacteria and that bad bacteria is actually, like, triggering your brain to feed it more. So for me to come here and be like, yeah, just cut it cold turkey, I’m asking you to literally go against biological, chemical messengers in your brain. And I’m just saying, override your biology. Easy. No, that’s not easy, right? And that’s why people fail every single time.
[00:34:39] Juanique Roney: So what we need to do is crowd out the sugar, right? Because if I make the sugar the forbidden apple, don’t touch it! You’re gonna want it more, right?
[00:34:47] Jenica Parcell: Yeah for sure.
[00:34:48] Juanique Roney: Right. And so what we do is we start eating a little bit more vegetables and we start feeding the good bacteria, right? And I’m not going to say, yeah, cut out cold turkey. I’m just going to say, make a green smoothie with a lot of vegetables in the morning, right? Eat more protein rich foods. Eat more fats, right? Still have your dessert. It’s okay. But I want you to eat more of this. So eat more eggs and avocados in the morning. Make a green smoothie that has tons of leafy greens, very little fruit, lemon and ginger and tumeric, and some cinnamon in there. And drink a big thing. I do so many stories on green smoothies because I love them. It’s such a cheat, right? You literally blend it up in a blender. It takes three minutes. Like if people like, I don’t have time for healthy food, you have time for a green smoothie, right? You take more bathroom breaks that are longer than making a green smoothie. I know you have time for a green smoothie and you just make this green smoothie that’s like loaded with leafy greens and some vegetables, and you drink that in the morning with whatever you normally eat and you will find after the next few weeks, like first you’ll be like, oh, I don’t like this green smoothie. And then my gutsy health members that start doing this, they’re like, I crave my green smoothies. After two weeks, I can’t wait to get up and make my green smoothie. And that’s because you are training that good microbiome and you’re, refeeding it. You’re feeding the healthy microbiome. The foods that they thrive off of which is fruits and vegetables, mostly vegetables, and the fiber from vegetables, and they’re growing and they’re growing and they’re growing. And now they’re sending out their chemical messages to the brain to be like, I want more food, feed me more vegetables. So you crave the green smoothies, right?
[00:36:14] Juanique Roney: So crowd it out, right? Like, like it doesn’t have to be either or, and when you get to a place, I love this rule of 80 20, and people probably think I eat perfectly and I do not. I’m an 80 20 person, right? Like 80% is healthy foods. Like I eat my green smoothies. I eat a ton of vegetables and I will eat dessert and I will eat fun food, but it’s, and I like to call it the fun food, not unhealthy food. It’s fun food, right? Because I’m still human and I want to enjoy my life, right? If I am creating stress around and I think this is where the alternative world gets it wrong, right? It’s like we have to count this and this and this and this and this. And then you’re left eating water and air, right? And people are so stressed now.
[00:36:55] Jenica Parcell: So hungry.
[00:36:56] Juanique Roney: They’re still hungry. And so it’s like, no, let’s, let’s take the stress out and just crowd it out. And let’s befriend all foods, but remember that we’ve forgotten vegetables a lot. And so vegetables are really with your friend. So do green smoothies. And then another tip I like to tell people. One day a week and, and I assume a lot of your, your people that listen to probably Mormon and LDS. So, what I say is
[00:37:17] Jenica Parcell: Christian, probably.
[00:37:18] Juanique Roney: Yeah or Christian like find, find like a youth in your church, like a 14 year old or a 15 year old, because a lot of women don’t have time to do this. But like going by a bunch of vegetables, like, I like to start with zucchini and onions and mushrooms and bell peppers, right? And then have someone come over to your house once a week and get a veggie chopper. So get that 14 year old from your church and have her come over. And she washes all your vegetables and she chops up all your veggies and puts it in like a ziploc or in a glass container, right? And then let’s say you’re making whatever casserole you normally make for dinner. Right? I’m not asking you to make a healthier meal because you actually don’t have the muscle memory to make healthy meals yet. Like literally cooking healthy is, is a skill. It’s something you have to practice. You don’t just wake up, and you’re like, I’m going to cook healthy. You have to learn it and it’s going to take time. So this is the easiest way to hack that make whatever you’re going to make for dinner. And now take that container of chopped vegetables. Take three handfuls. Saute it in a little bit of like coconut oil, olive oil, or avocado oil, and then put that as your side for dinner and make sure that you eat that, right? So if you drink your green smoothie in the morning and you and your eating, your chopped up vegetables, that someone prepped beforehand, like a few days earlier, that literally takes like, what, five minutes to saute. Easy. And now you’re eating your dinner and you’re eating your grilled veggies. And look, you’re slowly crowding out bad food, and you’re going to start craving your vegetables more and more and more.
[00:38:44] Juanique Roney: And then once you starting to crave vegetables, then maybe you can get a little bit more strict, right? And you can be like, okay, I’m ready to now cut out gluten. And I’m ready to now cut out dairy and I’m ready to be a little bit more strict. But I want you to realize, like, you have to learn to crawl before you walk and you have to learn to walk before you can run. If someone came to me and was like, Juanique, you have an autoimmune disorder and you need to cut out gluten, dairy, corn, sugar, peanuts, soy, and eat eight servings of vegetables a day. I could be like, oh yeah, easy. I can do that with my eyes closed because I’ve been practicing that. But someone who’s brand new to their healing world, that is daunting. That is,
[00:39:20] Jenica Parcell: Yeah. I’m like, kill me now honestly. It sounds so difficult.
[00:39:24] Juanique Roney: It’s so hard. It is hard, but it, well, let me rewind that. Okay. It’s not, it’s scary. It’s intimidating.
[00:39:31] Jenica Parcell: Intimidating. I think that’s what it is. It’s intimidating. Yeah.
[00:39:34] Juanique Roney: And you have to practice and practice and it might take you a year to get to that point. And that’s fine because now me, it’s easy. I can do it in my sleep
[00:39:44] Jenica Parcell: Okay I was gonna ask you that. Like, is it actually easy now?. Like you actually enjoy what you eat?
[00:39:48] Juanique Roney: I love food. I love it so much. I love healthy food. I love it. Like, I love finding healthy new recipes, but that’s a part of my culture, right?
[00:39:58] Jenica Parcell: Yeah.
[00:39:59] Juanique Roney: And this is the funny thing that like, food is so important. It’s literally like you’re literally putting chemicals in your body to create like chemical reactions in your body, right? We don’t recognize that when we are putting sugar in our body, it’s tearing the body down. When we’re putting inflammatory foods in our body, it’s tearing your body down and it’s making your body less viable for healthy hormone regulation, right? And so, if we want to stop these trends of unhealthy lives, like the diabetes and the food sensitive, like intolerances and all this, we’re going to have to realize that we have to make a cultural change with our food, right? Because we live in a fast food world. Like people have literally lost the art of cooking, right? And so, so yes, yes. In order to heal our bodies and like get our bodies to place where we have low inflammation, a lot of antioxidants and a lot of nutrients for healthy hormone production, we’re going to have to be friend vegetables again. And so you can take your time with that. You can take your time developing that skill. It doesn’t have to happen overnight, but if we want to see these trends stop, if we want to see infertility stop or slow down, we are going to have to romanticize vegetables and cooking again and make it part of our culture again.
[00:41:18] Juanique Roney: And so it like for me and my family, like food is like, ah, it’s it’s like a core part of our lives. Like my children know so much about food. They’re so empowered about food. My son knows when he eats too much sugar, he doesn’t feel good and he’ll be like, oh mom, I ate too much of this and this, and I’m feeling this and this and this. And I’m like, good job buddy. What do you think you should do? And he’s like, I’m going to get a lot of water and I’m going to have a little bit of extra smoothie today, cause that normally makes me feel better. Like he’s so in tune with his body because he’s learned these skills, right? And he’s gonna take those skills on with him as he’s an adult. And that’s like, that’s, that’s actually what we’re supposed like, that’s what I was talking about in the beginning of this podcast, right? Like the 80, 20, like 80% of our healing has to be us changing our relationship with our bodies and our food. And then the other 20% is your doctor helping you fine tune that. And so, yeah, like you don’t have to fall in love with vegetables overnight, but recognize that they are your best friend and they’re healing. Like healing happens. You just need to know what, what switches are, the right ones. And unfortunately, it’s vegetables. It’s like we got to eat more vegetables. So eight servings of vegetables a day is what I tell people. That’s about a half a cup is about a serving of vegetables. So when you’re doing the green smoothie and you’re doing those handfuls of sauteed vegetables, you’re there, it’s easy. You know what I mean? Just all of that. And you will find your taste buds start to change, your gut biota starts to change. You start craving things differently and it’s just this nice, easy, natural transition to eating healthier foods. And then you’re going to get to a point where you’re like, I’m ready to start cooking some paleo menu plans now. I’m ready to start cooking paleo dinners. I’m ready to start eating paleo lunches and salads and all that.
[00:43:01] Jenica Parcell: Yeah. Amazing. Thank you.
[00:43:03] Juanique Roney: Yeah, absolutely. Next on the healing, I’m glad we spoke about food, but fixing your gut. And so gut health is so important. I’ve spoken a little bit about the microbiome. Your microbiome is 80% of your immune system. And so it helps to regulate like inflammation and it helps to regulate your white blood cells. And so if you, like I said, if we’re not eating vegetables that feed the healthy microbiome, then we have the bad bacteria kind of running the show and they’re sending the wrong, chemical messengers. It’s called through a thing called chemotaxis. They’re sending up the wrong chemical messengers to the white blood cells, and that’s when we start getting like auto-immune diseases and food allergies and food sensitivities. And that’s when we start having gut issues. So every time I do like polls online, nine out of 10 people have digestive issues and a lot of people are like, well, isn’t bloat and gaseous normal, and it’s not. It’s a sign of digestive distress, right? And so if you have digestive distress and this microbial imbalance, you’re not absorbing your nutrients. Your body is breaking down faster than it’s healing. So think of your gut like this. Think of your body as a tree, right? And your gut is the root system to the tree. So if the roots of a tree are dying, what happens to the tree?
[00:44:20] Jenica Parcell: Uh, the whole tree dies.
[00:44:22] Juanique Roney: The whole tree dies. So if your root system is decaying, if your root system is on fire and there’s inflammation and you’re bloated and you’re gassy and you have heartburn and indigestion and IBS or IBD, or if you have like diarrhea or constipation, that’s your root system telling you, we’re not okay. We’re not absorbing. We’re stressed right now. So how is it that the rest of the tree is supposed to thrive when the roots systems a little bit on fire? So we got to heal our guts and we heal our gut by taking out the inflammatory foods and putting in the healing foods, right? And the inflammatory foods are sugars, processed foods, you know, like anything that’s in a package. Um, fast food restaurant foods, inflammatory oils, you know, we talk about inflammatories and then we can, that’s another thing for another time. There’s, there’s healthy oils and there’s inflammatory oils and most restaurants will cook with inflammatory oils. So you want to make sure that you’re eating the healing foods that build your body up. I always say you have three opportunities a day to either build your body up or break it down. And that’s at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The powers at the end of your fork. So what is that the end of your fork? Is it inflammatory and building up? Is it inflammatory and breaking down your body or is it putting in micronutrients to help your body heal and repair?
[00:45:37] Jenica Parcell: Hm, I like that.
[00:45:39] Juanique Roney: So make sure your gut is okay. Next is liver. And so the liver is where all the hormone processing happens, right? This is where our sex hormones go to the liver to be bio synthesized in their proper healthy ratios. And the liver also helps to detoxify the body. If you guys have listened to the episode with Karalynne Calls, she talks about chemicals and all of the things that are really becoming endocrine disruptors that are messing with our hormones. I highly recommend listening to that podcast, because everything she recommends is actually taking the burden off of the liver so that your liver can bio synthesize your hormones efficiently and properly. And how else do we support the liver? Because a lot of people ask, well, what kind of detox can I do? And I say, your body naturally detoxifies itself. If you’re eating enough vegetables and enough healthy proteins and enough fiber, right? And so again, it goes back to, are you eating eight servings of vegetables a day? If you’re not, let’s not talk about about a liver cleanse, right? Let’s do it the natural, healthy way that you were naturally supposed to detoxify your liver. So if, if, if the lifestyle stuff isn’t, isn’t in flow, why waste your money on products to detoxify you, when you’re eating foods that are putting the inflammation and the toxins in there in the first place? Let’s cut out the inflammatory foods and the foods that are breaking down your body. Let’s put the foods in that help build up your body and support your liver for detoxification, and also supports your liver to bio synthesize your hormones efficiently, and then we can talk about detox protocols.
[00:47:06] Jenica Parcell: That’s so good because I think that oftentimes when we’re sick or we want to feel better, we immediately go to those quick fixes. And I think that that’s very common to say, I don’t really want to change what I’m doing right now, but what’s like a quick fix that I can do, but it’s really good to break it down like that. I’m glad you said that because if you’re just going to be eating crap, essentially that your body can’t process, then there’s no point really.
[00:47:28] Juanique Roney: Right. And the thing is like, there is no quick fix, like, because I love, I love this, this, um, this analogy that Karalynne always uses. Like, if there’s a building that’s blazing. It’s on fire, right? Like someone comes to me and I see this burning building, right? They’re like, my hormones are messed up. I have weight issues, skin issues, all these things, recommend a supplement for me, right? So there, I’m looking at them and they’re this building, this huge building that’s just totally on fire. And they’re asking for me to take this teeny tiny little garden hose and put it on this burning building, right? No, it’s not going to happen. Like this one supplement is the equivalent of a garden hose from my backyard. What we need is like the fire department with massive hoses and we want like 12 hoses, right? And so like that, that can really give us water. And so those hoses, lifestyle changes, stress, you know, eating vegetables, decreasing inflammatory foods. Those are the big players, right? Those are the big hoses that are really going to be doing damage control, not this teeny tiny garden hose of like, well, can I supplement with ashwagandha? Yeah, you can. But like, why are you staying up all night? You know what I mean?
[00:48:39] Jenica Parcell: Right, right. Oh my gosh. That’s such a good analogy. It really helps put it into perspective. And, it’s amazing too, because. I honestly hope that this provides a lot of relief to those people who are listening, because there’s so much power in what you can do for yourself right away, starting today. You don’t have to wait for this, the secret answer that you’re going to get, or this miracle you can just really start today. So hopefully that’s providing a lot of empowerment versus overwhelming. And just like, like Juanique said, just start small and just ease into it.
[00:49:08] Juanique Roney: Yes. Exactly. And like you said, the power is yours, it’s all yours. It’s not something magical or it’s not something that’s totally unique. It’s literally getting back to the basics, like what your body was naturally and designed like what your body was designed for. Your body was designed to thrive with fruits and vegetables and healthy proteins and healthy fats. Not processed foods, not ridiculous amounts of soda and sugar and ice cream, right? And so let’s just get back to the basics.
[00:49:38] Jenica Parcell: Yeah.
[00:49:38] Juanique Roney: And then so next after liver is adrenals and the adrenals are really important because they produce cortisol and they produce the precursors to all your sex hormones. So if you are overly stressed, then you are hijacking sex hormones to produce cortisol. And so we want to make sure, like signs that you’re in adrenal burnout or fatigue, is that slump in the afternoon, right? Like, are you, are you exhausted? Are you, you know, and then you get that second wind in the evening. Do you have brain fog? Do you just feel like you have no energy whatsoever? You know, If you are still there, go back to like mindset and mitochondrion and do all of the things that I recommended. Get out the inflammatory foods, right? Because the healing foods are going to add energy back into your body, and the inflammatory foods are gonna rob you of your energy and your resources. And then also the lifestyle changes. Are you sleeping well, are you dealing with all the lighting? That’s all going to help with your adrenal health because when you are really tired and your body’s trying to create cortisol to create this, this kind of fake energy, you know, it’s just gonna burn you out, further, like deeper and deeper along, like further down the road, right? And so we got to let our bodies rest and heal. And we got to do some stress management and give our bodies the nutrients necessary for those adrenals to balance out so that we don’t overproduce cortisol and underproducer pregnanolone, alright? And so when we, when we have that balance again, of medium cortisol, medium DHA and pregnanolone, and that pregnanolone can actually convert into healthy ratios of estrogen and testosterone, which can then lead into healthy hormone balances. And that will increase your chances of fertility down the line. Alright? And then last but not least is hormones. Now I’m going to tell you this. If you have done steps one through, I think six and hormones is seven. I didn’t count them. If you do the first steps, hormones magically heal themselves. Yeah, magically, you don’t have to do anything. You don’t have to do a hormone protocol. Rarely do I put people on hormone protocols because they’ve done steps one through six and their bodies are now having proper periods and people are now getting pregnant and people now have energy and all of these things, right? And so, so hormones are like, like I said, they’re, they’re like the last part of the order of healing because they, they just are a reflection of the internal state of your body. And your internal state of your body is determined by your environment. And like, what is our environment? It’s our food, it’s our stress, it’s the people that we’re with. So make sure that you’re getting all of these things that heal your body and build your body up versus tear it down because I promise you, your body is the most intelligent vessel on the planet. You just give it the building blocks it needs, and it will regulate itself. You don’t have to micromanage it. It kind of does it all by itself. Unfortunately. Well, fortunately too, because a lot of people get pregnant through IVF, you know, but, but we’re trying to use modern day science to control hormonal processes that the body can do naturally when given the right tools. And I’m sitting here telling you the right tools are healthy healing foods, right? Healthy stress, fruits, vegetables, healing fats, good, healthy proteins. Like just give the body the tools and it will rampage all on its own. It can do all the things, right?
[00:53:13] Jenica Parcell: Yeah. Amazing.
[00:53:15] Juanique Roney: That’s it. Any questions?
[00:53:16] Jenica Parcell: Thank you! No. So how do people find you if they want to learn more and sign up for your programs or all that fun stuff?
[00:53:23] Juanique Roney: Yeah. So, there’s the Provo Health Clinic. You can go to provohealth.com and we do counseling and consulting there. I review blood work with people and help them come up with plans, and I have coaches that do that as well, they’re all trained by me. We do hyperbaric and ozone therapy and all like, the hair, the hair DNA analysis is a really great place to start because blood work can sometimes be a little pricey, like 300 bucks or something. Then the consult on top of that. But like the hair analysis is it’s not that expensive. And so we can do a hair analysis to start coaching you through the results from your hair analysis that shows us all of these things that need support in your body. So provohealth.com or on Instagram it’s @provohealth. My personal Instagram is gutsy_mom, and that’s where I share a lot of like, you know, nutrition and all of these things. I have my own podcast, it’s called the Gutsy Health Podcast where we just teach people how to be their own nutrition superheroes, right? How to become self healers, and we unpack a lot of science, but there’s a lot of mindset in that as well, so we’re kind of marrying science and mindset. And what I’m trying to do is I, I there’s, there’s this movement and I want to be like the forefront of this movement of, you know, we have these holistic clinics, but what I want to create is a movement of conscious healing clinics, where they actually blend in mindset and trauma and all like healing trauma and incorporating nutrition. So there’s a lot of fun things. We just moved to our new clinic right now. And,
[00:54:51] Jenica Parcell: I didn’t know that! Where’s it at?
[00:54:54] Juanique Roney: So it’s on 800 Northern Orum and this coming, I don’t know when this is being released, but this coming Wednesday, they’re going to get cranes to move three massive hyperbaric chambers into the second floor where the new clinic is going to be.
[00:55:09] Jenica Parcell: Oh my gosh!
[00:55:09] Juanique Roney: So if you’re in Provo and you see a lot of construction on 800 north by Harmon’s, that’s us they have to shut down that lane.
[00:55:15] Jenica Parcell: This is huge. I’m so excited.
[00:55:17] Juanique Roney: Yeah. And so we should be able to open at the new location in about a week and a half. So we outgrew our old place, like two years ago, waiting for this.
[00:55:26] Jenica Parcell: You did. Yeah.
[00:55:27] Juanique Roney: I know it was ugh, it was such a pain, but we’re still keeping that location. We’re still keeping that location and our storefront, but this is like, clinic is moving to the new location.
[00:55:37] Jenica Parcell: I’m so excited. So by the time this podcast episode is released, it will be available. So everyone just, honestly, you guys it’s been life changing for me. And I’ve kind of digressed in a lot of the things that I’ve done because last year I would say it was about a year ago. Or maybe, was it two years ago, actually? That I found out I had Epstein-Barr virus and I did all sorts of things. One of the things that I did at ProHealth was the HOCATT machine.
[00:56:01] Juanique Roney: Yeah, the ozone sauna.
[00:56:03] Jenica Parcell: Yeah, it was awesome.
[00:56:04] Juanique Roney: Isn’t that amazing?
[00:56:05] Jenica Parcell: Yeah, it was just so many things and like I need to start doing my green smoothies again. I’m so glad you reminded me of that, but anyway, thank you so much. So everyone go follow her. She is just a wealth of knowledge and she has the purest heart and really just wants people to feel healthy and happy. So thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy day to speak with us today.
[00:56:24] Juanique Roney: Of course, and thanks listeners for listening. I know there’s a lot to digest, but you know, like my last word of advice is go slow, you know, slow and steady wins the race. You know, you don’t have to become a nutrition, like a self healer overnight. Just like take little bits and, you know, incorporate all this information from a space of joy and awe and wonder. It doesn’t have to be scary and it doesn’t have to be hard. It actually, you can make it fun.
[00:56:48] Jenica Parcell: I love that.
[00:56:49] Juanique Roney: Healing can be fun like, it should be fun because that’s when it’s in flow. If you’re forcing and you’re trying to push, push, push, like you’re, you’re going to find that you’re frustrated. So like, you have to kind of date this world, right? You have to like date it and like, you know, get to know it and like get excited about it. And so just take the time and realize that healing is a journey. It’s a lifetime journey and it can be one of the best journeys of your life if you allow it.
[00:57:15] Juanique Roney: Okay. Thank you. Alright, bye everyone. See you next week.
